Cut the clutter, cut the stress!

I really used to hate the saying “A cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind.” Of course my mind is cluttered! If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a hundred thoughts and ideas cluttering your mind at any given moment.

Return library book.

Where did that sock go?

Meeting tomorrow at 1:00.

You get the idea. Life is busy. It’s stressful. And it accumulates.

So, what’s a busy woman to do? Get organized! I know, you’re probably thinking I don’t have time to get organized! Or maybe you just don’t know where to start. But here’s the thing: once you get things organized, you’ll feel less stressed. Chaos and clutter are truly a reflection of a chaotic and cluttered life, while organization is more reflective of tranquility and peace.

To help you get started, here are a few quick tips to help you cut the clutter and the stress right now:

  1. Start Small

Think about the little things you can clear out: your purse, a drawer, a bathroom cabinet. It’s amazing what a big impact tidying up those tiny spaces can have, for just a few minutes of your time!

  1. Use It or Lose It

Sort through your closet. If there’s something you haven’t worn in six months, it’s time to toss it. In fact, you can use that strategy for just about anything: bookshelves, storage closets, the garage, kids’ rooms. Obviously, there are things with sentimental value and you could possibly go for six months without using a crescent wrench, but there are also a lot of things that are just taking up space and draining our energy. Start a donation pile and think of the good you’re doing both for yourself and for someone else.

  1. Create a Command Center

This can be something as simple as a dry-erase calendar and a basket to catch papers. Having a central location for receipts, permission slips, and other forms can save you a lot of time and frustration and will keep your desk or counter tops looking neat and clean.

  1. Read the book, “The life-changing magic of tidying up” by Marie Kondo

This truly is a life-changing book!  While I absolutely believe the suggestions I just gave you, know that if you have some real time to work it out once and for all, this book tells you how.  Who wouldn’t love that?  The energy you get from a tidy and organized space is transformative.

But if time is not on your side, just know that a few small things now, can make a big difference.
