First off, who doesn’t want a yummy smelling home? Who doesn’t want someone to comment as they walk in the front door that they LOVE the smell? Secondary only to the intoxicating aroma is that there is actually a benefit to the body AND the environment! Imagine Wild Orange essential oil permeating your kitchen…yummy! The smell of summer and happy! Add that it’s also purifying the air AND that your brain uses it to uplift your mood and clarity and BAM…you’ve just changed your life!
Essential oils are powerful and take very little to create a positive effect in the body. Start with a drop or two and if it doesn’t solve the problem, try a few more. The best way to know if an essential oil is working is to use it on a regular basis (daily or several times a day). Regular use of an essential oil will give your body a chance to acclimate. A few drops frequently enough is like an apple a day keeping the doctor away. But do remember to consult your doctor, if you are on a particular medicine regime.
When all else fails, rub the oil on the bottoms of your feet. Yes, really! Your feet actually have the largest pores in the body and the oil will quickly go systemic. Just remember to put socks on after application, so as to stop any evaporation. The bottoms of our feet are also not sensitive, so the hot oils won’t feel hot! Many shy away from using essential oils because they don’t know how to use them. The bottle should say. You can use them aromatically in the diffuser, topically right on the skin and in many cases internally (the right kinds!).Yes, really! Oregano, cinnamon, clove and depending on your sensitive skin, perhaps Peppermint or one of a handful of others. These oils become very warm (or cold)very fast. Grab the coconut oil and wash your hands after use. Trust me when I say that Oregano is NO fun to get in a place where the sun don’t shine!:)
Fractionated coconut oil is your friend! It helps with the absorption of the essential oils into the body. It acts as a shield between your body and the outside world. The fat molecules in the coconut oil are heavier and weigh down the lighter molecules in the essential oil and keep it from evaporating. If you don’t have fractionated coconut oil, which means the fat has been spun out so that it remains a liquid, you can use any sort of oil: vegetable oil, olive oil, solid coconut oil, grapeseed oil, etc. If you have sensitive skin or are going to use a “hot” essential oil, the carrier oil will protect your skin. Just add a little to your hand with a few drops of the essential oil and rub on location. If you accidentally use a “hot” oil topically, you can pour some of the carrier oil right over the top and the burning sensation will cease.
Essential oils can last a long time! Two things: there are approximately 250 drops in each 15ml bottle and, if you figure you’ll use 1-3 drops at each use, they have the potential to last a long time. AND, besides the citrus oils that are more volatile than the others and have a 2-year shelf life, the rest of them will outlive YOU! They last forever pretty much!
Yep, sometimes you actually hear those words! The other day I was at my daughter’s 4th grade class and she had a stomachache. I whipped out my digestive blend of oils and rubbed a few drops onto her tummy. OK, you would have thought the kid next to her smacked a skunk with how he OVERREACTED!!! He let out a shriek, crinkled his nose and covered his face for the next 5 minutes. WHATEVER! It’s not THAT bad! Give me a break, people! Some smell yummier than others☺…but it’s worth it!
